Master Cleanse: FINAL DAY!

WE FINISHED!!

Our final day was yesterday and we celebrated by visiting Trader Joe's to buy ingredients to make fruit salad, orange juice and veggie soup.  We initially were going to wait until midnight to toast our success but we couldn't resist and munched on some dried fruits in the car.

Here's the meal we made:

  • Fresh squeezed OJ
  • Fruit salad (watermelon, cantalope, grapes, strawberries, blueberries and pluots)
  • Veggie soup
  • Wheat crackers and hummus
  • Toasted sourdough bread
We dove into the food for our first meal and it was DELICIOUS!  The flavors were just amazing on the tongue from our usual lemonde flavor.  The fruit and soup would be our meals for the next day and throughout the week.  I felt fine with a little bit of gas while my bf said the hummus went right through him.  We both were only able to stomach a small bowl each of the soup before our stomachs became very full.

Conclusion

I am definitely glad I tried this.  It is NOT EASY and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they are doing it with someone and have a really HIGH pain threshold.    I am really surprised at the amount of waste that came out of me even after not eating any solids for 4 to 9 days.  I lost a total of about 15 lbs which I hope to keep off or at least maintain something around that weight.  My tongue did regain it's color and is now more pink than white/yellow in the middle.  I feel lighter and cleaner inside and no headaches.  We both now are really careful of what we put back into our bodies after seeing how it gets stored and what form it takes! (yuck!)  My bf said he wouldn't do the full 9 days again but he might try a 3 day one another time and I feel the same.  I am really proud of myself and my bf for lasting so long even through all the temptations we had in our faces.. (BBQs, movie popcorn... )

There is no medical study that it works and I was a skeptic before  that this was even healthy for the body but now that I have seen what the results are, I would say it's not bad to try out maybe once or twice a year.

But for now, I am sure glad I can eat REAL food again !

Master Cleanse: Day 9 (AM)

Day 9 (AM)

It's the morning of the final day of our cleanse.  For some reason, yesterday was super hard for me since I knew that food was right around the corner.  I tried to sleep early last night, however since I had drunk the herbal tea about an hour earlier than I usually do, I had to wake up at 4am to visit the bathroom.   I'm proud to say that the solids in my movements have significantly gone down.

I noticed that yesterday, my tongue was still white and while my bf said his was getting more pink, I wasn't sure if mine was going to before we come off our cleanse.  This morning, I notice that my tongue is more pink and the white is fading.

We are preparing our first meals later tonight for tomorrow.  Fresh squeezed OJ for breakfast and fruit salad for lunch with some veggie soup we make that night for dinner.

Knowing the end is near makes me really glad we did this.  I'll do a final blog after our first meal... only HOURS AWAY!

Master Cleanse: Day 8 (PM)

CAN'T WAIT TO EAT!

It's the night of the 8th day on this cleanse and I am going crazy... I think my bf is having strong cravings too.

So we both decided to end our cleanse on the 9th day.  My bf feels like it's run it's course and he feels much better.  He also has lost a good amount of weight.. probably close to 15 pounds.  We want to both eat semi normally this weekend so we are going to start introducing back juice/fruit and soups starting midnight of the 9th day.  I noticed that my movements have been much less in containing solids and I have also dropped weight.  My cravings are getting more stronger however and I can't imagine going any longer by myself.

I am getting even more hungry that I know food is close by.  I am just worried that watever we start to eat, it will run through us but hopefully we can be back to normal by this weekend.

.. counting down..

Master Cleanse: Weekend Day 6 - Day 7/ Day 8 (AM)

So I didn't get a chance to blog over the weekend so here's a quick run down.

Day 6 : Saturday

We woke up craving food again.  It didn't help that I was watching the Food Network on tv and the Travel Channel with food shows on all morning.  I have gotten a slight disgust feeling now when I see super greasy foods. Even though I am a big fan of fried and fatty foods, now knowing what form it takes coming out of me is a bit of a turn off.

We spent the day keeping ourselves very busy so that we wouldn't be tempted by eating.  We made 2 large jugs of lemon mixture to last us through the day and set off to a day of the Zoo, a photo shoot and then a movie.  we decided to skip out on our morning laxative tea since we both wanted to be mobile during the day and not worry about the nearest bathroom.  There was some temptation from me when we had to sit down and watch our friends have lunch in front of us but it wasn't as bad as I had imagined.

By the time we got home, we were both tired. Not having any food in us really makes our energy level dip down so spending a day in the sun tired both of us out and we went to bed early after a cup of herbal tea.

Day 7: Sunday

Another day down... only 3 more to go!

We got up early to attend a day at the beach with friends who were going for a BBQ.  I figured our hardest test was resisting sitting down and having "lunch" with people so we could withstand a BBQ on the beach with friends.  We again skipped our morning tea to prevent us from rushing off to hunt for a bathroom.  We both had movements still in the morning but there is no more stomach pains and there are less solids.  We packed a bag with our daily lemon mixture and we set off.

I noticed while at the beach, hiking around definitely got me more winded than usual.   We also took a stroll around and got tired quickly.  My bf even took a nap while in a lounge chair   I didn't think this beach trip would be hard for either of us however it was probably our most difficult day.  We both almost gave in and had some fruit because the smells from the grilling meat and the bags of snacks and drinks were unbearable!  The water at this beach is too cold to swim in so the only thing really to do was sit and eat and chat.  Watching EVERYONE around us eating and enjoying the foods really tested us.  We were rationalizing having just a bite of fruit since it was natural and mostly juice anyways.  In the end (with some yeling from a friend.. thanks Ari!) , we decided not to ruin our 7 day streak and resisted all foods.  We even had to walk away from the group for a bit to avoid the lovely grilled meat smells.

We bought more supplies from the store to last us for our last days on the cleanse and had a nightly cup of herbal tea and headed to bed.

Day 8: Monday (AM)

Back at work and I am grateful to be in a wierd way.  The weekend was fun but hard to resist not eating.  Only 2 more days and we are DONE!  My bf and I already planned out our first meals and are planning to celebrate with a midnight toast of orange juice.  Both our stomachs have definately shrank and we have both lost weight.  He has lost more than I have but I will reweigh myself when the last days are done.  We both don't want to undo our main purpose of doing this cleanse in the first place which was to be healthier in general so we want to be careful to not go back to eating high fatty foods.

Let these last days fly by

Master Cleanse: Day 5 (PM)

Day 5 (PM)

I"m pretty impressed that we've made it through our halfway mark.  Today was definitely much easier. There are still light stomach pains but they come fast and go after a quick bathroom trip.  We decided to go out to the movies tonight which wasn't as bad and I thought.  I did smell the snacks and popcorn but it was not painful.  I did have to turn down a friend's invites to going out tonight.  The idea of being in a bar/lounge setting without having a drink or anything to do but sit just was not that appealing to me tonight.

We have packed our weekend so that we are distracted from our lack of eating and I am happy to not be sitting at my desk all day.

Only 5 more days left til we get to have some real flavor again !
